Lidl has indicated its interest in relocating stores in Farnham, Petersfield and Bordon – as well as opening a new store in Haslemere.

The supermarket chain celebrates 30 years this year since the opening of its first store in 1994. To celebrate they are looking to expand and improve its stores.

Since 1994 the chain has gone on to open 960 stores across England, Scotland and Wales, employing 31,000 members of staff.

The chain currently has a record market share of eight per cent around the UK.

Lidl recently opened a new store in Alton and is looking to open more in Hampshire and Surrey as it has revealed a wishlist of new locations for stores.

Included in that list is a location in Haslemere, coming just a month after Waverley Borough Council unveiled plans to turn a busy free car park and youth club in Wey Hill, Haslemere, into a £22 million supermarket and council housing development.

It is also seeking new, larger locations for its existing stores on constrained sites in Dogflud Way, Farnham; Pinehill Road, Bordon; and Station Road, Petersfield.

Richard Taylor, Lidl GB chief development officer, said: “As we celebrate our 30th year, our commitment to ensuring that all households across the country have access to high-quality produce at affordable prices is stronger than ever.

“We’re planning to open hundreds of new Lidl stores but ultimately see no ceiling on our ambition or growth potential.

“This is why we’re continuing to invest in new locations whilst exploring innovative routes to expansion.”
